Because of their impact and shatter resistance acrylic mirrors are trendy for use in environments where safety is paramount such as nurseries and horse stables.
Acrylic Mirror has good reflective properties; however, acrylic is not as rigid as glass and is therefore prone to minor distortions on larger panels which will optically distort the image. We recommend that the mirror is bonded to a flat rigid back panel such as Plywood or MDF to minimise this effect.
Acrylic mirror will tend to absorb moisture if exposed to high humidity or damp environments, this will cause a temporary warpage of the material which still distorts the reflection. For damp or outdoor applications, we recommend Aluminium Composite Mirror Panel as they will not absorb moisture.
For large sheet sizes we would recommend polycarbonate mirror as it is much more rigid in larger sizes which reduces optical distortions. In addition, the reflective quality is better than that of standard acrylic.
Outdoor use: Acrylic mirrors are not suitable for outdoor use. If you’re looking for a mirrored material suitable for outdoor use, please consider our premium aluminium composite mirror as it offers a much better quality of reflection and can withstand external weather conditions.
